You work here,
maybe even live in the County. You've been around for maybe a month?
a year?; 15 years?; how about 20-plus years?
In that time
you've driven to work---did your job---then turned around and drove
back home; seen co-workers--department heads--(maybe even a
commissioner) come and go; developed some friendships along the way
(or not); had some good times and bad; been paid every two weeks;
loyally took your breaks and lunch; received an annual performance review
(maybe); received a longevity bonus (maybe); experienced all four
seasons (sometimes in a day--this is Ohio!); seen gas prices
steadily increase; took time off for vacation--holidays--personal
day (provided, of course, if you were eligible); and on, and on, and
on.
So with all your
comings-and-goings, how much do you really,
really, know about the County you work for?
Who are its elected officials? What agencies do they head?
What
about those employment policies somebody handed you on a CD: How much vacation do you
accrue after 5 years, 10 years, 20 years (or do you)? How many sick days do you get a year?
Do you get a longevity payment and, if so, how much? Do
part time employees get sick time?
OK, now try
these: What does "nepotisim" mean? What does all this alphabet
soup mean to you: FMLA, EAP, ADA, LOA, MMO, PERS, SPBR, SERB, JFS,
CSEA, 457? Are you a classified or
non-classified employee? What is civil service? Can flip-flops
be worn in the summer?
Are you permitted to campaign by
distributing political material, or by making speeches on behalf of
a candidate for partisan elective office?
In the spirit of
fun and just for the shear personal curiosity of how much you do
know, have a try at these questions. We'll try to change 'em as time
goes on just to keep you on your toes. As a hint: if you
don't have a clue, click on the Employment Manual link on the left
side of the screen from which the majority of questions originate.
